How He Loves Us
"How He Loves" is a song by John Mark McMillan off of his studio album "The Song Inside the Sounds of Breaking Down" (2005). John Mark McMillan wrote this song after the death of his best friend, Stephen Coffey. Coffey died in a car accident just hours after he had prayed out loud, "I'd give my life today if it would shake the youth of the nation," during a church prayer meeting on the 1st of November 2002. He was a youth minister for MorningStar Ministries. The writer explained the source of this song, "I sat down to have a dialogue with God and, really, He ended up having a dialogue with me. It's like He was speaking to me through the song." One of the original lyrics was changed from "sloppy wet kiss" to "an unforeseen kiss" on John Mark McMillan permission. McMillan said on his blog though, "I applaud David for changing the line to serve his people, and at the same time I boo the machinery that would cause him to have to do so."

Song Lyrics
And He is jealous for me.
Love's like a hurricane. I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory.
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.
And, oh, how He loves us, oh.
Oh, how He loves us.
How He loves us, oh.
Yeah, He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves.
And we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes.
If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking.
And Heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss.
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest.
I don't have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about the way...
That He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves.
Yeah, He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves.
Yeah, He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves us.
Oh, how He loves.
